My Summer 2023 Reading List

My Summer Reading List

Summer is my favorite for a reason: time to slow down and enjoy the long days ahead! And what better way to enjoy a day than to read at every possible opportunity?

I chose books I’ve been looking forward to for my summer reading this year, and I don’t know why, but I’m also feeling a little nostalgic this summer, so while I have some serious reads, I also have several memoirs I’ve been wanting to read, and to satisfy my nostalgia, I’m also digging out some of my childhood favorites to reread over the summer. (I know!)

I’m honestly excited about every single book on my list, but I’m also fully aware that the idea of re-visiting childhood faves could fizzle out quickly, so I also have a few backup books in mind just in case. I can always add them to my fall reading list if I end up reading children’s books all summer!

Here’s what I’m reading this summer…

The Making of Biblical Womanhood - Beth Allison Barr

God’s Promise of Happiness - Randy Alcorn

Placemaker: Cultivating Places of Comfort, Beauty, and Peace - Christie Purifoy

Kaleidoscope: Absurdly Short Stories of Traveling and Unraveling - Christina Quist

The Mending Basket: Stitching Hope When Life Unravels - Margaret T. Jensen*

Childhood Favorites:

The Anne of Green Gables Series - L.M. Montgomery

The Little House on the Prairie Series - Laura Ingalls Wilder

The Nancy Drew Series - Carolyn Keene

The Boxcar Children - Gertrude Chandler Warner

Mr. Popper’s Penguins - Richard and Florence Atwater

Five Little Peppers and How They Grew - Margaret Sidney

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Roald Dahl

PS - While digging through my box of childhood books, I actually found my summer reading list from the summer I was eleven years old, complete with little check-boxes I’d drawn to check off the books as I went! (Yes, I’ve always been a nerd.) I was amused but not surprised to see 90% of the books on the list were Nancy Drew mysteries. I’ve always loved a good mystery.

What are you reading this summer?

*This gem is sadly out of print, so if you see it (or any of her books) for a reasonable price, grab it!

(This is not a sponsored post and I’m not affiliated with anyone or anything in it. I also sometimes read books by authors whose views I may not agree with, either theologically or politically.)
