My Favorite Things: March 2023

March Favorites

The end of March really sneaked up on me - didn’t even see it coming! It was a good month, filled with a new adventure and slightly warmer weather with glimpses of spring. Even with the busyness and new routines that new adventures bring, I’m slowly starting to make progress on my spring reading list.

How was March for you?

Here are a few things I’ve enjoyed or that have encouraged me this month…

Hope for the future:Gen Zers are bookworms but say they're shunning e-books because of eye strain, digital detoxing, and their love for libraries.”

Speaking of books, I loved this article on female friends opening bookstores together!

I read a lot of articles responding to the article from TGC that caused such a stir earlier this month. This article and this follow-up Q&A, both by Beth Felker Jones, are two of the most thorough and helpful pieces in my opinion. (This shorter piece by Scot McKnight is also good.)

Making me think: Reading Revelation means knowing for whom it was written.

This podcast episode on the Romanovs was so good!

Speaking of podcast episodes, I’m currently listening to this one on the women behind the Montgomery bus boycott and am really enjoying learning about these women!

Here are 5 ways to be less influenced in a world full of influencers. Loved this!

And here are 100 simple ways to immediately improve your life. There are some really good ideas here and all of them are very doable!

Speaking of enjoying life, I’ve recently discovered House & Garden UK’s youtube channel and can already foresee myself falling down the rabbit hole of gorgeous homes and gardens!

Can pastors please stop salivating over women’s bodies in sermons?

On why (most) pastors shouldn’t be book authors: “To be sure, publishing a book lets pastors share wisdom with many more people than attend their church. I believe this can be done in a healthy way. But book publishing, as an industry and business, has a way of distancing shepherds from the sheep, of confusing primary and secondary callings, and of rejiggering the pastorate to be a job where leaders dole out spiritual “content” from afar, rather than sit — I mean physically sit —with people in their longings, questions, and suffering.”

Have you seen this pickle in a blanket snack?!

And did you see the new historical American Girl doll from… 1999!!!???

I mentioned last month that I was reading The Scarlet Pimpernel. My friend Nina Ruth also happens to be a fan and surprised me with a beautiful hand-made hairpin from her online boutique that was inspired by Marguerite’s hairpin in the book. If you love hand-made, vintage, or antique pieces, definitely check out her shop!

Instagram lolz:

This month I shared my spring reading list (And if you’d like to catch up on the blog, check out: simple joys and slow seasons and on observing Lent.)

Currently on my nightstand: Renovation of the Heart, Lifting the Veil, and The Still Hour.

Speaking of books, here’s my spring reading list. What’s on yours?

Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with anyone or anything on this list.  Just sharing a few of my favorite things!
