Dear Lonely Girl: a Letter of Encouragement to My Lonely Sisters in Christ

Overcoming Loneliness as a Christian.png

Dear Lonely Girl,

Maybe you’ve just moved into your first dorm room or apartment, and you’re filled with nervous energy and wondering what the future holds…

Maybe you’ve just had a break-up, and you feel numb and alone…

Maybe you’ve changed jobs, churches, or cities, and you dread the idea of starting over…

Maybe you haven’t had a big change at all, and maybe that’s the problem.  Maybe you’re stuck staring out the window while life passes you by and you’re wondering how this is happening to you…

Dear Lonely Girl, however you got here, whatever’s going on, I want you to know that your Heavenly Father sees you right where you’re at.  He sees your broken heart, your anxious thoughts, your lonely tears, and He is waiting to wrap His arms of comfort around you and shelter you in the shadow of His wings (Psalm 91).

  • He can take your worries and exchange them for peace.

  • He can change your mountain of hurt into a truckload of joy.

  • He can even transform your loneliness into a blessing.

Yes, He can take your season of loneliness and shift things around in ways you can’t imagine.

So dear Lonely Girl, don’t allow your loneliness to isolate you from His love.

I know this isn’t where you want to be.

I know you wish things were different.

I know you are tired of feeling alone everyday.

But I also know that He is a God who makes a way where there is no way.  He’s a Creator who creates people and situations for a purpose. He’s a loving Father who waits to bless His children when they willingly open up their hands to receive the blessing.

And sometimes, that blessing comes wrapped in unappealing packaging.  Yes, loneliness can actually be a blessing in disguise, especially if it draws us close to Him!

My dear Sister in Christ, please know that feeling lonely and being alone are two different things. While you might feel lonely, with God, you’re never alone.

You may feel like you’re all on your own and you may think you have to start over, get through it, and figure it all out by yourself, but you’ve actually got God - the Creator of heaven and earth - on your side, and He’s waiting to rush down and meet you in your lonely situation.

Won’t you invite Him into your loneliness right now?  Ask Him to come into your situation and transform your loneliness into a blessing - not just for you, but for others as well.

It all starts with a simple, heartfelt prayer.  Pour out your heart to God and then listen as He pours out His heart to you.  Ask for His help in surrendering to this season and for His peace and rest as you move forward.

  • “Father, I’m so lonely right now…”

  • “God, I don’t understand this season I’m in.  I need Your help…”

  • “Holy Spirit, please be my Comforter right now…”

I’m praying for you as you read this, my friend.  I’m asking that He draws you close as you seek Him, and that He blesses you in ways you can’t even imagine.

You just never know what He will do with a surrendered heart!

Love and prayers,

Abigail
