Hi Hannah! Tell us about yourself, Seeking Harvest, and how you were called to start it.
Hey! I am so honoured to be interviewed and I pray that God will use these words to encourage you right where you are.
I am 19 years old and have lived in Brisbane, Australia for about a year now. I founded Seeking Harvest with an awesome team of people in July 2017.
Quite a few of my friends have always explained me as a passionate person, and honestly Seeking Harvest birthed out of my passion and desire to encourage others on their journey. My idea of Seeking Harvest was completely different to what it is now, but I love that because it is crazy how when we are obedient to the very last thing God gave us to do, He then gives us the next step, then the next step, and then eventually we get to this place where we look back and see actually God's plan was so much better than mine!
How do you define calling?
For me, calling is about trusting God to place you in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. Embracing that moment with open arms and relentlessly pursuing all God has placed on your heart to do.
Has your calling ever changed?
Initially I was going to answer yes that my calling has changed but the more I thought about it and prayed about it, I actually don't think it has.
I believe God has always called me (and you!) to love Him deeply and love others well.
The way this is done has definitely changed depending on the season and what I am involved in but God's initial calling of Me to bring my whole self to Him has never changed and I don't think it ever will.
Through different seasons and transitions of life, I have felt a range of emotions from scared to confused to happy to lonely to joyful to fearful. For example, when I finished school I believed God called me to move to a different state of Australia. I WAS SO SCARED and honestly I didn't really want to leave. However as I look back now, I smile because where I am now was where God needed me to be and called me to be.
Is your calling also your job right now?
Currently it is. I am very fortunate to have been blessed with ways of income to support me while I work at home building Seeking Harvest and a project that I am working on at the moment (stay tuned!).
As weird as this sounds, it came about through failure. Different things I was involved in that I either wasn't good at or didn't feel peace about... slowly God kindly led me through different doors of opportunity to where I currently am today.
What’s been your biggest joy in living out your current calling?
My biggest joy in my current calling is the messages I get from people who read the devotions or read a post on social media that impacted them. I find it so humbling and it honestly makes my day every time I read a message.
What’s been your biggest learning in living out your current calling?
My biggest learning is that God controls my calling, not me! I'm one of those people that loves control (guilty), and often times when I have controlled my next steps and not consulted God, it has always ended up not how I imagined. I began realizing that my problem wasn't that I wanted to be in control, I just had to learn what I was in control of. God has our calling safely in His hands but the things I can control are choosing to ask God to guide me, choosing to do my best with what I had in my hands, choosing to take ownership of who God made me to be, choosing faith over fear.
What’s been your biggest struggle and how did you overcome it?
My biggest struggle has been comparison. I often would find myself saying things like, "If only I was living there or if only I had that friend or if I only had that amount of money or if only I was talented at that..."
I overcame it (and am still overcoming it) by every morning repeating this phrase that I have written out on my desk and in my room:
"You can't be that person because this world needs YOU. They need your input, your words, your skills, your seeds, your ideas, your strength.
You can't be that person because you can't stand in their place and they can't stand in yours.
Stand tall and confident in your place...
Do your best and trust God to do the rest."
Was there ever a time when you felt discouraged or wanted to give up pursuing your calling?
100% yes. I have definitely had my moments of feeling discouraged and wanted to give up.
I am far from perfect in my calling but that is how I know it's a calling from heaven... simply because I can't do it on my own. I need His grace, His strength, His wisdom, His provision and His encouragement every single day and in every new moment.
What’s something God has been teaching you lately?
Lately God has been teaching me about running in wisdom. I really wanted to learn more about how to have wisdom in our calling... know what to do, when to do it, how to do it, etc.!
I have started reading one chapter of Proverbs a day and although it has only been a few weeks, I already am learning so much!
What encouragement would you like to offer to the woman reading this right now?
Girl, you have totally got what it takes!
Embrace where you are now, because it's preparation for where you are going.
Someone who I use to go to school with once said, "Do your best and let God do the rest" and that phrase has encouraged me in every season, and I pray it will also encourage you.
This world needs YOU and what YOU bring to it!
