2 Tips for Praying in Faith

2 Tips for Praying in Faith.png

Asking in faith... This is something God has been teaching me this year.  I’ve struggled with this area of prayer and have always tried not to “get my hopes up” when praying, but God has been calling me to deeper prayer times this year, and one of the biggest things He’s been assuring me of is that He can be trusted.

He’s also been growing me in the area of acting in faith.  As if asking in faith wasn’t hard enough, and then He asks me to start acting in faith!  To step out and believe Him when He speaks.  To obey immediately when He gives a command.

So this year, I've been praying with more faith - asking, believing, and thanking Him in advance - and you know what?  It's made all the difference.  I'm seeing my prayers answered and I'm experiencing more peace and joy than when I fell into my pattern of praying and hoping things would work out.

I’m also seeing greater blessings as I’m learning to act in faith instead of waiting around asking, “Are you suuuure, God?”

I wanted to share two of my biggest learnings from all of this with you:

1. Make sure your request aligns with Scripture and God’s character.  Our requests can’t be from wrong or selfish motives; they must be from a deep assurance of who God is and the calling He has placed on our lives.  The more we get to know God - who He is and what He’s about - and the more we come to know who we are in Him, the easier it will be to grow in this area and ask in faith.  (This is where He’s currently growing me!)

2. Start thanking God in advance.  That’s been a huge one for me to wrap my mind around, but thanking Him in advance for the answers we’ve been praying for - whatever those answers may look like when we receive them - is showing that we trust God and honor His wisdom and sovereignty.

More encouragement:

"If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who “worry their prayers” are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open." - James 1:5-8

"God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us." - Ephesians 3:20-21

"...We live by believing and not by seeing." - 2 Corinthians 5:7

I encourage you, if you're like me and you've been struggling lately with asking in faith, don't give up. Keep asking, keep expecting the answer, and keep thanking Him in advance.
